Our Stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Limerick

We have been enjoying an old fashioned summer at home filled with imaginative play, arts & crafts and games. It was a real treat to break up our summer holiday with a mini-break to Limerick, a city we have never visited before. We stayed at the beautiful Radisson Blu Hotel Limerick.

The kiddies love to getaway. They each packed a backpack with their treasures & we set off for Limerick.

Location

The Radisson Blu Hotel Limerick is super easy to find & is located right off a roundabout as you approach Limerick City. It is about a fifteen-minute drive from the hotel to Limerick City.  And about a ten-minute drive from the Radisson Blu to Shannon Airport or Bunratty Castle.

The hotel is set back off the road. It was very quiet & secluded. It felt like a safe location for kids to run & play at the hotel playground and around the beautiful gardens. There is plenty of parking available & it is free to park which is a plus to staying outside the city.

Our Family Room

Our family room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated in shades of cream and blue. We had a double bed and three single beds. The kids were delighted to each have their own bed for the night. There was plenty of room for our bags and lots of space on the floor for the kids to play.

Room Amenities We Loved:

  1. Ice bucket with an ice machine down the hall

  2. Kettle, tea cups & tea bags

  3. Glasses for water

  4. Mini fridge

  5. A safe

  6. A line across the bath tub that can be pulled out to hang wet bathing suits.

  7. Treats at check in & toiletries on the bed for each child.

The hotel has complimentary wifi throughout although it didn’t work in our room. I did have 3G access in the room thank goodness – essential stuff for a blogger. 😉

Our Stay

Dining at the Radisson Blu

We had our first night’s dinner at the hotel’s Porters Restaurant. You can see what we ordered in the video above. The meal was delicious & service was excellent. Kids under 12 dine for free (when you stay at the hotel & an adult is dining). So that makes for great savings.

It’s really convenient & a big savings to eat at the hotel when kiddies are in tow. Also, we could have a drink & relax without having to drive. With that in mind, we had our second dinner at Quench Bar. Quench has the same kiddies menu and offer available. There is some outdoor seating outside Quench which over looks the playground.

The buffet breakfast is held every morning in Porter’s Restaurant. There are so many options to choose from including hot foods, fruit, cereals, cheeses and freshly squeezed juice. You can see the full buffet on my video above. It’s nice that the buffet runs until 11 so we didn’t have to rush in the mornings.

Fun for the Kiddies

There was so much for the kids to enjoy at the Radisson Blu Limerick!! I was really impressed by the warm welcome the children received everywhere they went and by all of the wonderful activities available for them at the hotel.

  1. At check in, they were each given a Radisson Blu Global Explorers bag filled with activities and treats.

  2. They each had their own special toiletry kit left on their bed upon arrival in our room.

  3. At dinner, the kiddies each had their own menu with colouring and activities on the back to keep them happy until their food arrived.

  4. There is a lovely pool and spa at the hotel. Families can enjoy the pool until 7pm.

  5. Radisson Blu Limerick has a Global Explorers Kids Club during the summer holidays. It starts every evening at 5pm and runs until 9pm. The complimentary kids club includes feeding the kiddies in the restaurant and then a different activity each night. This is a huge plus for families traveling together as parents can have a meal or a drink without the kiddies and the kids can enjoy other children and activities.

  6. Adjacent to the hotel is a lovely playground and fairy garden.

Visiting Limerick

We arrived at the Radisson Blu on Friday & enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at the pool and dinner at Porters Restaurant. Saturday morning after breakfast we headed off to Limerick City and then to Lough Gur.

Limerick City is a clean and well-kept city. We had no problem parking and walking around. The vibe was lively and there are plenty of places to eat and shop around the city.

I was really taken with the history at Lough Gur. It is a beautiful lake where people have lived for over 6,000 years! There is a really lovely Lough Gur Heritage Centre that explains the history of the area. The audio walking tour was so interesting to learn about the history and the folklore surrounding Lough Gur.

A short drive from Lough Gur is the Stone Circle at Grange. It’s the largest stone circle in Ireland and has a spiritual feeling about it. In my video below, you can see the beautiful stone cirlce & the remains of ancient civilizations & artefacts that were discovered surrounding Lough Gur.

Join us for a drive through Limerick & a walk around Lough Gur in my video…

Final Thoughts

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Limerick. I was super impressed with all of the activities they have for families to enjoy. With all Radisson Blu hotels, there is a big savings with kids dining for free. The hotel was clean and the service was excellent. I really loved the hotel’s location as it felt secluded, quiet & had lovely outdoor space for the kids to enjoy.

We were guests of the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Limerick for purposes of this review; all opinions are my own.
