The Happiness Series with My Random Musings

I’m really delighted to welcome one of my favorite bloggers, Debbie from My Random Musings to The Happiness Series. Debbie is a talented blogger whose interesting blog posts always draw me in! She has answered the happiness interview questions. Here is My Random Musings on happiness…

1. Name three things in life that make you happy. And, please tell us a little about each one. The first one has to be friends/family. It’s a privilege to have such good friends and a close-knit family, to know someone always has your back.

The second one would have to be blogging. I’m not going to go into detail because it’s not a plug, it genuinely makes me happy to write and engage with like-minded people, some of whom have become real friends.

The third one is sunshine! Nothing beats a good sunny day for cheering me up. If I see the sun shining, I just know it’s going to be a great day and that mindset usually works out!

2. What’s something you do to find your happiness when you’ve lost it? I try to concentrate on the good things in my life rather the negative. If I’m feeling a bit down, I go outside and get some fresh air or read a good book (depending on the weather). Either one usually cheers me up.

3. What cheers you up after a long, difficult day? How bad would it be to answer wine to this question? Seriously though a nice hot bath, PJs on and a night of chilling out watching a funny movie usually does the trick.

4. Does your job make you happy? If you are a SAH parent, does that make you happy? I wouldn’t’ say my job makes me happy, but it doesn’t make me unhappy either. It pays the bills at the end of the day and with the job market in its current state, I am grateful to have a job that covers my expenses.

5. Share a happy memory with us. It’s weird because as I sit here thinking what to share, I realise I have so many happy memories. Most of them aren’t anything particularly life changing or glamourous. They are everyday things that other people probably wouldn’t get – like the times you sit with friends laughing at nothing, but it’s so funny, and when you tell people they just look at you blankly.

One memory that does stand out was going for my first ever job interview. I was really terrified but I must have done something right because, by the end of it, I had come out with a start date for the company. I remember feeling so happy that I had achieved something all on my own (and that I would suddenly have all this extra money!).

6. Do you think money can bring happiness? This is a really good question. I want to say no, but I don’t think it’s as black and white as that. I truly believe if you have enough money to live reasonably comfortably and you learn to appreciate the small stuff then you can be happy. I don’t believe you have to be rich to be happy, but I think it would be hard to be happy if you didn’t have enough money to pay bills, buy food and have the odd treat.

As my dad used to say (jokingly): Money doesn’t buy you happiness but it can make the misery bearable!

7. Is your happiness influenced by the things you do or the way you think? A little of both. I like to try and remain positive which helps a lot, but I also think it’s important to go out and do things you love. It’s a balancing act.

8. Which would make you the happiest – a sun holiday, new car or a new job opportunity? If the job was getting paid to write, then the job every time. Other than that it would be the sun holiday.

9. Which wine makes you happier – red or white? White!

10. Share a quote that makes you smile. If wine or chocolate isn’t the answer, you are asking the wrong question!

Born in 1982 in North East England, I knew from an early age I wanted to be a writer. Life got in the way, and the dream was put on the back burner, although never forgotten. I now write my own blog, My Random Musings, write guest posts for other blogs and am planning on completing my first novel by the end of this year! Follow Debbie on
