Dear Mama… An Open Letter to a New Mum

* This post is sponsored by WaterWipes

Dear Mama,

Congratulations on becoming a parent. This is a magical time for your new family, even though sometimes it doesn’t feel so magical. There’s an explosion of love for your new precious baby. But there are also hardships and recovery from giving birth. It’s a time of mixed emotions and figuring out your new role…mum.

My oldest turns 11 soon and I remember the day he was born like it was yesterday!! The same goes for my 8-year-old and 5 year old… You never forget the day your baby was born.

My first baby came along and made us parents. Our entire world changed that day. My husband and I were swiftly no longer the priority in our own lives. This tiny precious baby boy instantly became our everything.

And the love you feel, the overwhelming surge of love for this beautiful new life. It’s something that can’t be described, it can only be understood from experience.

Suddenly you are willing to give up everything for your baby. You are a parent. Everything has changed.

Along with the unquestionable love that comes for your baby, so does a lot of other emotions. I was quite emotional after my first was born. I cried a lot those first few weeks. Those feelings pass. Don’t be shy about reaching out for help.

I also remember the discomfort after giving birth. My whole body was quite angry with me. However, I was pushing during labour I was sore from head to foot. It took me about nine months to recover from that!

A lot of times women don’t tell that part of the story. Everything seems grand and perfect. Just know that it’s ok to have a variety of feelings and it’s ok to be tired and sore. It’s all part of it. All mums experienced it. No parent is perfect.

Looking back it’s much clearer to me now. It’s not a fairytale, it’s not a perfect time. There are highs and lows. But the one constant is the beauty of being a mom. That precious gift of being a parent!

Throughout the first year we learned so much and grew together as a family. We enjoyed so many firsts like the first smile, first time our baby boy held our hand, the first time he crawled, stood up & the first time he walked.

Being a new parent is not a bed of roses. There are arguments, sleepless nights and worries. Nobody is perfect and every parent experiences some struggles, especially in the early days.

But when I look back now, the good times stand out the most in my memories. The joy of becoming a parent outweighs all the rest. The time flies by so enjoy your precious new gift. Keep your mind on the positive. And congratulations on becoming a parent!!

Love,

A fellow mum xx

A Parent Is Born

I used WaterWipes for my babies and continue to use them today because they are made from 99.9% water and a drop of fruit extract. They are suitable from birth, safe for our sensitive skin and are approved by Allergy UK.  97% of midwives agree that WaterWipes are suitable for use on the skin of newborn babies.*

WaterWipes have launched a brand new TV commercial and campaign in the UK & Ireland entitled ‘When a Baby is Born, a Parent is Born.’ The ad shows us the joys and challenges of being a new parent by using the purest metaphor: water.

What I love about the new ad is that WaterWipes makes a stand against the ‘perfect parenting’ so commonly displayed. The TV commercial takes an honest look at being a new parent from apprehension to elation, from turbulence to pure bliss.

Watch the beautiful new WaterWipes video below. It’s also featured on the @WaterWipes Facebook pagewebsite.   When a baby is born, a parent is born…
