Picking The Right Engagement Ring

collaborative post

Are you looking for an engagement ring? Well, then congratulations! Now it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty. This is going to be one of the most important purchases you will ever make. It needs to be a personal one, a practical one, and one to leave you feeling happy and joyful, not stressed.

There is more than you think that goes into engagement ring research. You need to learn about everything from the 4Cs of a diamond to what questions you ask your jeweller.

I have an engagement ring buying guide that will give you all of the answers to the questions you may have. Additionally, there are multiple ways to stay within your budget as plenty of diamond financing options are at your disposal by most of today’s diamond ring stores. Don’t worry, there are cheap engagement rings that are elegant as well.

Finding the Right Stone

The engagement or eternity rings that you choose will be defined by the aesthetics and quality of the centre stone, which will most likely be a diamond. However, to find the perfect stone for your girlfriend, you have to do some research and gain a little education, and boy is there a lot to learn about diamonds.

No matter how much research you do, you will never learn everything there is to know during your journey to find a cheap but elegant engagement ring. Just try to believe that the jeweller you choose is giving you honest information about your ring.

Colour

Diamonds that are pure and structurally perfect have no hue. It is like looking at a pure drop of water. These types of diamonds will cost more. In terms of diamond colour in engagement rings, the absence of colour is what makes the diamond more valuable, except for fancy coloured diamonds. Diamond colours are measured on a scale that ranges from D to Z. D is the whitest, which shows no colour, and Z is black. When a diamond reaches a K on the scale, the untrained eye can notice variations in the colour. This colour will often appear yellow which is caused by imperfections in the stone and nitrogen within the diamond.

Metal

It’s important to understand the different kinds of metals that are used for rings. Platinum will last a long time. It is one of the hardest materials that can be used in jewellery. Additionally, it won’t wear down as fast such as white gold. Silver should be avoided since it is a soft material that will wear down easily.

Shape

It’s even more important to choose the right diamond shape. You should first know the difference between an oval and an emerald shape. Make sure you know your partner’s style before you pick out the engagement ring.

Insurance

Losing a piece of jewellery that is near and dear to your heart is heartbreaking, financially, and emotionally. Nobody wants to deal with the stress of losing something small, yet significant. Insurance companies will require the ring to be valued, which most jewellers will give you proof of that value. This will generally be a higher price than what you actually paid for it. So, when you are looking for a ring, consider looking at second-hand jewellers or antique dealers.

If you buy from a second-hand shop or antique dealer, then you are breaking the chain of unethical diamond and metal mining. Metal and diamond prices change frequently and since antique rings are unique, they will be impossible to replace. Make sure you are insured for an amount that will allow you to purchase a replacement for a ring that may become lost.
