5 Fun Family Destinations to Holiday in Canada

In collaboration with Canadian Affair

Canada is a vast country, there is an incredible amount of places to visit and things to do. There are options from cities to country, woods, mountains, lakes...you name it, Canada has it to offer! This makes it a wonderful destination for families to explore.

I grew up quite near the Canadian border, and we used to love to visit Niagara Falls, Toronto and Montreal as a family. I have a lot of wonderful memories of our adventures! In this post I'm going to give you inspiration for 5 different family holidays to Canada.

Niagara Falls

I have to start with Niagara Falls, as it is my favourite place that I have visited in Canada. It is a really beautiful experience to visit the falls. Not only is it beautiful to the eyes, it has a really powerful energy. When you stand near such a powerful force, it brings you closer to nature and gives a higher appreciation.

There are boat rides up to the falls, and paths you can explore behind the falls. There are also visitor centres, restaurants and shops as well. Making Niagara Falls chock full of family fun and adventure!

Toronto

Toronto is about an hour and a half from Niagara Falls. You follow around Lake Ontario to get there. It is the capital city of Ontario and has loads of amazing things to do for families! The Royal Ontario Museum has lots of exciting displays including an impressive dinosaur skeleton exhibit.

My favourite attraction in Toronto is the Ripley's Aquarium of Canada which is Canada's largest aquarium. It has over 15,000 animals including sharks, jellies, rays, and green sea turtles. It is right next to the CN Tower which is a lot of fun to visit too with excellent views of the city. You can purchase a Sea to Sky pass which gives a discount on visiting the two attractions.

Montreal

This city is full of charm, culture and plenty to explore for families. Montreal is the largest French speaking city in North America. It has a lot of historic charm with a mix of cultures, food and things to do.

A visit to the Notre-Dame Basilica is a must. That might sound unexciting....but you wouldn't believe how beautiful the stained glass windows are! They are gorgeous! For the adventurous families, you can take a zip line over Old Port, catching a birds eye view of Old Port as you whizz by!

Montreal also has some hands on museums such as the Museum of Archeology and the Montreal Science Museum, and a big planetarium.

Canadian Rockies

Let's move out of the hustle and bustle of the cities and into the mountains. The Canadian Rockies are a wonderful place to visit as a family. There are national parks, lakes, diverse wildlife and recreation sites for families to enjoy. As well as some lovely resorts and accommodation available.

There are many different resorts and actives scattered within the Rocky Mountain region. And of course in the winter months, ski holidays would be very popular in this region. A family ski holiday is a lot of fun too with many resorts offering lessons for children and adults alike.

Alberta

Alberta has so many lakes, you have plenty to choose from to enjoy a family holiday. Each offers an array of water actives, wildlife, recreation and accommodation. Check to see what is available at each lake, and if there is a beach for the kids to go swimming.

From the lakes to the mountains or the city, Canada has so much to offer families on an adventure! Have you ever visited Canada? Let me know in the comments.
