You can’t always control whether or not someone gets sick in your family. People catch bugs, they get hurt, and sometimes they are born with or develop a chronic health condition. But as parents, you can give yourselves and your children the best chance possible.
Here are a few things that you can do for yourselves and your children to help everyone feel well. Health is one of those things that people don’t think about when they’ve got it. But it all adds up. So while your kids might not understand why a healthy lifestyle is important, you can encourage them and help them set healthy habits now. Of course, this is not medical advice, if you have any concerns, always consult a doctor.

Healthy Eating
We have some strange ideas about healthy eating. Diet culture has come in and out of fashion, and a lot of people still seem to think that healthy eating equates to heavily controlled eating. In reality, the best diet for you might be different from the best diet for someone else.
People need different amounts of calories depending on their size and activity level. More importantly, it’s vital not to instill unhealthy eating habits in your children, as an overemphasis on calories can be damaging.
Instead, think about what your family eats. Healthy eating should be about variety rather than restriction, so your children get all the nutrients they need as they grow. Switch out snacks for healthier options, and try to avoid too many sugary drinks or overly processed foods. There’s nothing wrong with a treat, but these shouldn’t make up most of your family’s diet.
Regular Exercise
People are designed to move. But we live increasingly sedentary lifestyles, and this can be damaging to your health over time.
Even children play less actively than they used to. Video games and social media have a way of drawing kids in, and they might not be as interested in playing sports or active games. Controlling screen time and encouraging more active games, or even playing with them, can help you both.
You can also get your children involved in school sports or extracurricular activities. Go for hikes or other active family activities that you all enjoy and that get you all moving.
Dental Health
No kid likes going to the dentist. Most adults don’t enjoy it either. But dental health is so easy to neglect until something goes wrong.
Teach your children how to brush their teeth and make sure they build a habit. This is more difficult to start with, but once they get into the habit of brushing twice a day, they’re more likely to stick to it.
A private dentist can also provide dental care, regular cleanings, and checkups for your whole family as and when you need them.
Improved Sleep
One way everyone can improve their health is through their sleep. Sleep is incredibly important for both children and adults, but poor sleep can affect a child even more than their parents. They’re constantly growing, learning, and developing, and poor sleep can make this more taxing for them.
It’s important to make sure you all get enough sleep and that you have good quality sleep.
