Fiery Romantic Gestures that Won’t Burn a Hole in Your Pocket

This is a collaborative post.

Everyone knows that love isn’t about money, but for some reason, we feel pressure to spend, spend, spend, when trying to make our special someone know how much we care. The truth is that all most people want is loving support, a little acknowledgment, and some creative romance now and again to keep the spark alive (and heading to the same restaurant date after date is not what I mean by creative!). The next time you want to show your partner how much you care, try one of these alternative romantic gestures. They’re creative, fun and won’t break the bank!

1. Write Each Other Notes

I’m not talking about pages upon pages declaring your love, but the shopping list doesn’t count, either! Leaving small notes hidden in your partner’s pocket, purse or car can do a lot to brighten their day and let them know that you’re thinking about them even when they’re not around. Thank them for something they did, which they thought you hadn’t noticed, or remind them that you find them sexy. Notes are great little surprises but don’t overdo it or you’ll ruin the spontaneity!

2. Have an Impromptu Picnic

On a nice day, head to the park or even your own garden for a relaxing meal under the sun. There’s no need to prepare strawberries and cream or pop a bottle of champagne. The key is to be simple and spontaneous. Pick up some fresh fruit and salad or some sushi from the local takeaway and grab a blanket and some pillows off the sofa. Voila! After a relaxing meal, you’ll be ready for a lazy cuddle!

3. Make a Playlist

Making a playlist of songs for your partner is one of the classic romantic gestures of our time, but now that tapes and CDs have been replaced by MP3s, it’s done less and less. Take some time and make a playlist of your partner’s favourites along with some that you love and think they will too. Include an iTunes gift card and encourage them to make you one as well! This is a lot of fun and lets your loved one know you want to share their interests.

4. Take a Day off Work

Yes, that’s right. It’s ok to be a bit naughty now and again. This is a great option if you have kids. Take a day off, and once the kids are off to school you’ll have the whole day to spend together. See a film, go to a museum, open a bottle of wine at lunch or just stay in bed!

Romantic gestures are important in every relationship and remember that the best ways to show you care are always the simplest. If your partner is feeling down, a few extra hugs can make all the difference. If life is extra busy and stressful, staying positive and supportive is a gesture that won’t go unnoticed. And sometimes the most effective way to show your special someone that you love them is simply to tell them every day.

What little romantic gestures do you enjoy?
