This is has been my favourite quote for a long time. It was a real life changer for me. I used to think that if things were a certain way, then I would be happy, and then I would be grateful for those things. If things weren’t the right way, then I’d wish they were different so that I could be happy and grateful. I think that’s a common way of thinking. We all want to be happy!
I watched a TED talk that changed my entire way of thinking. A man stood there on the stage and made everything so clear. If you want to be happy, then be grateful. He points out that we all know people who have everything it would take to be happy, but they aren’t happy because they always want something new. And also, we know people who have terrible misfortune who are happy because they are grateful for what they have.
It’s gratefulness that makes you happy. He says: moment by moment we can be grateful for this gift. This gift can be your family, children, health, being alive. It’s the simple things we should be grateful for and in turn we will be happy.
It’s changed my mindset for the better. I am doing my best to focus on the good in each situation and it’s very helpful and uplighting.
